The PTACC Deflection Summit 2025 is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to learn and network with peers in the field of deflection, both nationally and internationally.

Call For Presentations (CFP) Guidelines:

PTACC is looking for a variety of panels, workshops, and presentations from deflection practitioners — police, law enforcement, EMS, Fire, Second Responders, treatment, service providers, recovery and recovery services, housing, prevention, community, civic leaders — researchers, policymakers, and partners from the field of deflection and pre-arrest diversion. The PTACC Summit welcomes international presentations and attendees.

Proposals should:

  • Speak to the 10th anniversary of deflection, acknowledging the growth and impact of our shared accomplishments as we celebrate in New Orleans!
  • Explore deflection applications for populations and situations beyond (but not excluding) overdose response. In the last 10 years, deflection has grown in many different areas.
  • Fit into one of the four specific focus/topic areas:
    • First Responder Wellness and Support – What are we doing now, 10 years in, to support those on the frontlines of deflection?
    • Research, Evaluation, Data, and AI – What do we know now that we did not know 10 years ago?
    • Specialized Deflection Outreach such as Youth Deflection and Veterans Deflection – What’s emerged in deflection that we were not thinking about 10 years ago?
    • Legislation and policy (national, state, regional, and local) – What’s in place now that we could not have imagined 10 years ago?

Priority will be given to innovative, interactive sessions focused on at least one of the above topic areas, incorporating responses to the following two questions:

  • What do we know about deflection now that we didn’t know 10 years ago?
    • How has deflection made a difference and impact in your community in a way that wasn’t possible before?
  • Provide practical, engaging, and unique learning opportunities for deflection sites and practitioners.
  • Support developing and adopting practice-informed principles, promote research, and share lessons learned.
  • Highlight and elevate voices of expertise, including but not limited to peers, deflection participants, and people in recovery.
  • Offer opportunities for participants to engage in discussion, problem-solving, networking, and shared learning.

PTACC is pleased to offer discounted Summit registration for presenters. We appreciate the time and effort you spent on putting your proposal together, and this is one way we thank you!

NOTE: Presenters must register for the Summit to be eligible to present if selected, regardless of the number of days they attend. Our Summit costs remain the same whether a person attends for one day or three days. Thank you for your understanding.

Session Options:

(Choose 1 for your proposal): Please review the following information carefully. You may propose one of the following types of sessions.  If you believe a proposal could be

appropriate for more than one type of session, please indicate that in your submission.

  • Moderated Panel: This is an hour-long, discussion-focused session that should include 2-5 “presenters” and a moderator. This session can be a series of separate presentations that align, or a discussion among and between panelists about a topic, approach, or issue in the field, along with supporting informational material. This format would fit sessions that aim to compare and contrast different approaches, present problem-solving frameworks, explore complex issues, or highlight collaborative work. To encourage collaboration, PTACC will give priority to sessions that include different communities or teams, rather than presentations focused on a single site or program.
  • Interactive Perspectives from the Field: This one-hour session will provide attendees the opportunity to interact with presenters in a more “hands-on” approach with deflection practices. In addition to opportunities to have a Q&A session, presenters will also provide interactive activities that will enhance learning about deflection activities, initiative and programs.
  • Working Session: “Hosts” will organize a working session for specific group of participants. Working sessions include peer-to peer networking, communities of

practice and deflection leadership. The time allowed for Working Sessions will be 1 hour maximum. Opportunities for Working Sessions may take place on Wednesday and Thursday of the Summit to reduce conflicts with other activities.

NOTE: We are not currently accepting proposals for keynote speakers. Those are by invitation only. You may contact, Jac Charlier, PTACC CEO at [email protected] with questions on keynote speakers.

Suggestions for a Strong Proposal:

Priority will be given to sessions that

  • Align with the themes, areas, guidelines, and goals of the summit, especially since this is the 10th anniversary of deflection
  • Offer a “hands-on” or interactive approach – we really want interactive sessions!
  • Promote the value and importance of the local context and community
  • Highlight collaboration across silos and systems (justice, treatment, recovery, community), multi-deflection pathway approaches (see the PTACC 6 pathways of deflection on our website), and shared learning
  • Include speakers representing different areas (rural, urban, frontier, tribal, etc…), approaches, or pathways of deflection, both nationally and internationally
  • Offer new or unique ways of doing deflection OR opportunities to serve new populations such as Youth Deflection and Veterans Deflection
  • Offer practical solutions and tangible ideas for deflection practitioners
  • Include PTACC partners, peers, people in recovery, and/or deflection practitioners
  • Include or feature international, youth, or veteran perspectives/panelists

Before you get started, you will need:

  • Type of Session (if you don’t see a matching session type, suggest one for consideration – we are open to innovation!)
  • Session Description (maximum 400 words)
  • Session Summary Description (maximum 5000 words) that includes:
  • How does your session fit with deflection’s10th birthday?
