Stigma Reduction Strategy Area
Stigma Reduction Strategy Area
The pervasive stigma which surrounds addiction impacts the perception of individuals with a substance use disorder, the way these individuals are treated, and often the access to treatment and services (or lack thereof) received. We believe that in order for PTACC to be the national voice of the fields of deflection and diversion, we must intentionally identify and rethink current systems that perpetuate stigma and educate people and organizations. By doing such, we unify as a field through joint understanding and effort; build trust with the community; and continue to progressively move towards actualizing the necessary public health approach to address this complex issue.
This Strategy Area meets on the third Wednesday of the month from 1-2 pm EST. For more information, or to become involved with this group, please e-mail the Co-Chairs, Mariel Hufnagel at [email protected] and Chief Dan Meloy (Ret.) at [email protected].
